Chinese Attire Day and Intangible Cultural Heritage Carnival: Unveiling the City’s Largest Traditional Floral Tribute
Date: 23/01/2026
To promote Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) education and pass on the essence of Chinese tradition, our school hosted the "Chinese Attire Day and ICH Carnival" on January 23, 2026. Through interactive experiences, hands-on workshops, and cultural performances, the event allowed students to experience the unique charm of traditional craftsmanship firsthand.
The carnival featured a diverse range of activities, with highlights including:
- Unveiling of the City’s Largest School-based "Fa Pau":A magnificent 5-meter-tall floral tribute was centerpiece to the event, showcasing the pinnacle of traditional Chinese paper crafting.
- Expert Guidance from a Master Craftsman:We were honored to invite renowned Hong Kong paper craft artist Hui Ka-hung to deliver a keynote lecture on the history and culture of the "Zhazuo" craft.
- Diverse ICH Interactive Experiences:Over 15 dedicated booths were set up, covering a wide array of traditional crafts for students to explore and practice.
- Cultural Showcase:In celebration of Chinese Attire Day, the event featured vibrant lion dances and martial arts performances, creating a joyful and festive atmosphere.
Principal Ho Pui-shing remarked:
"The 'Fa Pau' (floral tribute) is a cornerstone of traditional craftsmanship in Southern China. It has evolved from the competitive 'Scrambling for the Floral Tribute' sports tradition into a highly distinctive local paper-crafting art. To preserve this invaluable cultural heritage, we invited local veteran practitioner Master Hui Ka-hung to help us transform this endangered wisdom into a cultural landmark shared by all our teachers and students."
