"The Xtra Factor!" touring show
Date: 24/03/2026
The English department recently hosted "The Xtra Factor!" touring show by the Croucher Foundation. This initiative was designed to motivate students to learn science in English in an engaging way. By using English to learn science, students discover that the language especially English is a powerful key to unlocking the world's most fascinating science mysteries. Through high-energy storytelling, students explored the meaningful lives of four legendary female scientists.
Students were particularly captivated by the mini volcanic eruptions illustrating Katia Krafft’s work. Our English department team and the Croucher team utilized the engaging scientific experiment to spark curiosity. From Delia Derbyshire’s music engineering to the life-saving innovations of Hertha Ayrton and Stephania Soldini, this English Department event proved that when students are captivated by science, they are naturally driven to master English as the language of global discovery.
